QPR striker Loic Remy has flown to the United States to have a medical ahead of a move to Liverpool.
Liverpool jetted out to Boston on Sunday to begin their pre-season tour and they will be joined by the Frenchman, 27, late on Monday.
Remy, who scored 14 goals on loan at Newcastle last season during QPR’s year out of the Premier League, will undergo his physical examination by Liverpool’s medical team on Tuesday and is likely to be confirmed as their fifth summer signing – for a fee in the region of £8million (Dh50.1m) – the following day.
Remy has been brought in to bolster the forward line following the £75m departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona but manager Brendan Rodgers’ spending will not stop there.
Belgium striker Divock Origi is expected to make the same trip as Remy for a medical with a deal virtually concluded with Lille but no date has been set for that as yet.
While Rodgers is bringing in more strikers it seems he cannot get rid of another as Fabio Borini wants to stay and fight for his place at Anfield despite the club accepting a £14m bid from Sunderland where the Italian had a successful loan spell last season.
Borini played in Saturday’s friendly win over Preston and has travelled with the squad to America.
“He wants to remain on Merseyside,” his agent Marco de Marchi told Tuttomercatoweb.com.
“Sunderland have made a large offer of 18 million euros (£14m) to sign him but Fabio wants to stay.
“His project with Liverpool started two years ago when he left Roma; he began a journey and it is a major project for him.
“He should not be judged on his first year; he was out for six months with various injuries and during the past year he took a step back by going to Sunderland and he has had an extraordinary season.
“His future? Now, after the loan, Liverpool have not told me anything. I think he will stay, he is convinced that he will play.”
When asked what Borini thought about his chances being limited, De Marchi added: “(Raheem) Sterling, (Daniel) Sturridge, (Rickie) Lambert and now Remy? At Roma he was with (Francesco) Totti, (Dani) Osvaldo, (Erik) Lamela and Bojan (Krkic).
“He has no fear of playing alongside anyone and for me he can play a part within any top club.”
Rodgers is still trying to conclude a deal to sign a third Southampton player in Dejan Lovren.
The suggestion coming from the Croatia international’s camp is that Southampton, from whom Liverpool have already bought Lambert and Adam Lallana this summer, are willing to accept the Merseysiders’ £20m offer.
However, that has not been officially communicated to Liverpool by Southampton and so negotiations are continuing.
Should a deal for Lovren be agreed it would cast further doubt on the future of Daniel Agger, who has been linked with an exit since before the end of last season.
“It is no secret that I had problems last season and I am considering things,” the Denmark captain told BT, a newspaper in his homeland.
“How things turned out last season is not acceptable for me.
“Many things can happen in football and I do not want to exclude anything.
“I am here now and it is up to me to show the coach that I should play.”
Agger has travelled with Liverpool and trained with the 33-man squad at their base at Harvard University, although Rodgers was absent as he is suffering with a virus.

What is graphene?

Fourth Arab Economic and Social Development Summit
As he spoke, Mr Aboul Gheit repeatedly referred to the need to tackle issues affecting the welfare of people across the region both in terms of preventing conflict and in pushing development.
Lebanon is scheduled to host the fourth Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in January that will see regional leaders gather to tackle the challenges facing the Middle East. The last such summit was held in 2013. Assistant Secretary-General Hossam Zaki told The National that the Beirut Summit “will be an opportunity for Arab leaders to discuss solely economic and social issues, the conference will not focus on political concerns such as Palestine, Syria or Libya". He added that its slogan will be “the individual is at the heart of development”, adding that it will focus on all elements of human capital.

Should I be euphoric?
No. It's fine to be pleased about hearty returns on your investments. But it's not a good idea to tie your emotions closely to the ups and downs of the stock market. You'll get tired fast. This market moment comes on the heels of last year's nosedive. And it's not the first or last time the stock market will make a dramatic move.
So what happened?
It's more about what happened last year. Many of the concerns that triggered that plunge towards the end of last have largely been quelled. The US and China are slowly moving toward a trade agreement. The Federal Reserve has indicated it likely will not raise rates at all in 2019 after seven recent increases. And those changes, along with some strong earnings reports and broader healthy economic indicators, have fueled some optimism in stock markets.
"The panic in the fourth quarter was based mostly on fears," says Brent Schutte, chief investment strategist for Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company. "The fundamentals have mostly held up, while the fears have gone away and the fears were based mostly on emotion."
Should I buy? Should I sell?
Maybe. It depends on what your long-term investment plan is. The best advice is usually the same no matter the day — determine your financial goals, make a plan to reach them and stick to it.
"I would encourage (investors) not to overreact to highs, just as I would encourage them not to overreact to the lows of December," Mr Schutte says.
All the same, there are some situations in which you should consider taking action. If you think you can't live through another low like last year, the time to get out is now. If the balance of assets in your portfolio is out of whack thanks to the rise of the stock market, make adjustments. And if you need your money in the next five to 10 years, it shouldn't be in stocks anyhow. But for most people, it's also a good time to just leave things be.
Resist the urge to abandon the diversification of your portfolio, Mr Schutte cautions. It may be tempting to shed other investments that aren't performing as well, such as some international stocks, but diversification is designed to help steady your performance over time.
Will the rally last?
No one knows for sure. But David Bailin, chief investment officer at Citi Private Bank, expects the US market could move up 5 per cent to 7 per cent more over the next nine to 12 months, provided the Fed doesn't raise rates and earnings growth exceeds current expectations. We are in a late cycle market, a period when US equities have historically done very well, but volatility also rises, he says.
"This phase can last six months to several years, but it's important clients remain invested and not try to prematurely position for a contraction of the market," Mr Bailin says. "Doing so would risk missing out on important portfolio returns."
