Martin Kaymer will make the trip to Abu Dhabi in January to contend for a fourth HSBC Abu Dhabi Golf Championship title, the tournament announced on Wednesday.
The 28 year old won previously won in 2008, 2010 and 2011, making him the tournament’s most successful entrant in the eight years it’s been running.
The world No 38 most recently finished in a tie for eighth at the end of October in the WGC-HSBC Championship in Shanghai, China.
“It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s National Course, which is almost like a second home for me,” Kaymer said. “I’ve experienced some of the greatest and most memorable wins of my career there. I find the atmosphere to be an extremely calming environment, it just feels very natural for me.”
The German rose to No 1 in the world rankings in March 2011, shortly after his third HSCB Abu Dhabi Golf Championship victory that January.
This year, he joined the PGA Tour. He had three top-10 finishes in 17 PGA events, with a best showing of fifth at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in May.
“I’ve taken a lot of positives from this season having spent a time working on my game and feeling confident going into Abu Dhabi,” he said. “Joining the PGA Tour was a big change, which has taken some adjusting to, but I’ve made a lot of progress and am looking forward to relaxing over Christmas before heading to Abu Dhabi refreshed and ready for the season.”
The tournament has previously announced Phil Mickelson, Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Luke Donald, Matteo Manassero and Jamie Donaldson as entrants.
It will run from January 16-19 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
