Australia hooker Cameron Smith was delighted with his team's victory over New Zealand, but has already turned his attention to moving up a gear against England at the weekend. England are the Kangaroos' next opponents in Melbourne on Sunday and they will have to improve on Saturday's 32-22 win over Papua New Guinea if they are to spring a shock on the Australians. Smith claimed his side can produce an even better performance against England. "We weren't sure how the Kiwis were going to play," he said.

"They're a physical team and capable of throwing the ball around. We wanted to start strongly. We know we are going to get better as the tournament goes on. It's a tough ask against the Pommies - they're a great team and beat us down here a couple of years ago. "A few of the boys haven't played football in a while and all played well, particularly the halves." * PA Sport
