Donnelly in town
An extensive collection of Ryder Cup memorabilia goes on show in Dubai this week as the build-up to golf's greatest matchplay tournament intensifies. Tony Jacklin's European captain's jacket from 1985 will take pride of place in the display at a dinner on Thursday night. The function will be hosted by Dougie Donnelly, the Scottish broadcaster whose distinctive voice was heard at 18 Open championships and many other big tournaments.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand teenager Danny Lee eclipsed Tiger Woods as the youngest US amateur champion by beating American Drew Kittleson 5&4 in the final at Pinehurst, North Carolina. The Rotorua High School senior, 18 last month, seized control by going five up after the morning round before rolling in a 35ft birdie putt at the 14th to seal a commanding victory. "It feels like it's a dream and I just can't believe it," a beaming Lee said after coming back from two down early on to dominate the 36-hole final at Pinehurst No 2.
