Jordan Spieth claimed his third major title on Sunday with a stunning Open Championship victory at Royal Birkdale.

Here is a look at some things you may not have known about the 23-year-old Texan.

1. What's in a name?

Depending on which part of the internet you believe, the name Spieth comes from Middle High German and means either ''successful'' and ''speedy'' or ''late''.

2. Charitable Trust inspired by sister

In 2015 Spieth established the Jordan Spieth Charitable Trust, which focuses on special needs youth, military families and junior golf. It is inspired by his younger sister Ellie, who was born with a genetic disorder.

3. Money man

Spieth is an occasional member of the ''money games'' organised by Phil Mickelson in practice rounds before tournaments.

4. Home sweet home

He rented two houses at the 2015 Masters, one to sleep in and the other to hang out with friends and family.

5. Basketballing brother

His brother Steven was recently selected to play for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

6. Toothless wonder

As a four-year-old Texas Rangers fan, Spieth attempted to catch a stray ball at a game, lost it in the lights and had his two front teeth knocked out.

7. From pitcher to putter

Baseball was Spieth's first love. A left-handed pitcher, he gave the game up at the age of 12 to focus on golf, which he plays right-handed.

8. Junior runner-up at Birkdale

While the 2008 Open was being played at Royal Birkdale, the 14-year-old Spieth was finishing runner-up in the Junior Open at nearby Hesketh. Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn made history as the first girl to win the event.

9. Golf over graduation

He missed his high-school graduation in 2011 because he was playing in the Byron Nelson Championship on the PGA Tour. He finished in a tie for 32nd.

10. Holidays with golf pals

His spring-break holidays with Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas and Smylie Kaufman have become major hits on social media.
