Sam Allardyce makes the cover of The National Sport on Friday, July 22, 2016 after the English Football Association announced the Sunderland manager is to succeed Roy Hodgson as England manager.
The deal still has to be rubber-stamped, with the FA still to agree on compensation with Allardyce’s club before the announcement is made official, although this should be concluded on Friday.
Richard Jolly writes that Allardyce has quite the task on his hands to lift England spirits following their disappointing showing at Euro 2016, where they exited the tournament at the last-16 stage following an unexpected 2-1 defeat to Iceland.
