Valencia’s unbeaten start to the season came crashing to an end as they were beaten 3-0 away at struggling Deportivo la Coruna as Sevilla moved into second on Sunday.
Second-half goals from Carlos Bacca and Kevin Gameiro handed Sevilla a 2-0 win at Elche to move them above Real Madrid and to within three points of leaders Barcelona.
Valencia are now tied with Atletico Madrid in fourth place after the champions beat Espanyol earlier in the day thanks to goals from Tiago and Mario Suarez.
The club had started the weekend just two points behind Barca, but never got going against a Depor side that had won just one of their first seven league games on their return to the top flight.
The hosts’ opener came in controversial circumstances, however, as Shkodran Mustafi inadvertently turned a corner towards his own goal and despite Jose Gaya’s attempts to clear off the line the goal was given, although replays suggested the whole ball hadn’t crossed the line.
German international Mustafi was at fault again as Depor doubled their lead six minutes later, misjudging a header as Lucas Perez scampered in behind the Valencia defence before firing in off the far post.
Valencia pushed for an equaliser after the break, but despite starting with Spanish internationals Paco Alcacer and Rodrigo up front, the closest they came to getting back into the game was when Alcacer struck the outside of the post 13 minutes from time.
However, within a minute, Deportivo had extended their lead as Toche took advantage of the huge space in behind the Valencia defence to gallop clear on goal and slot past Yoel Rodriguez.
Sevilla took advantage of Valencia’s misfortune to record their sixth win in their last seven games.
Colombian international Bacca opened the scoring from close range after Manu Herrera had parried Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu’s drive.
And substitute Gameiro secured the three points when he headed home Denis Suarez’s cross 17 minutes from time.
Earlier, Atletico moved back to within five points of Barcelona thanks to a routine win over Espanyol.
Tiago opened the scoring with a wonderful looping header into the far corner from Gabi’s cross two minutes before half-time to settle the hosts’ nerves.
The Portuguese midfielder then limped off early in the second half, making him a doubt for Atletico’s Champions League game against Malmo in midweek.
However, his replacement Suarez had the easy task of tapping home the second from Jose Gimenez’s header 20 minutes from time.
“The team played the way they had to,” said Atletico manager Diego Simeone.
“We played with a good tempo and with patience until the first goal arrived. Then, in the second half, we controlled the game.”
Simeone’s men had been beaten by an early three-goal blitz at Valencia last time out and they set out to make amends early on as Kiko Casilla denied Arda Turan from point-blank range before the Turkish midfielder had a goal ruled out for offside.
Casilla also turned behind a fierce drive from Koke, but Atletico were thankful to their own goalkeeper Miguel Moya moments later as he smothered Lucas Vazquez’s effort at the back post.
The home side continued to enjoy the majority of the play, though, and made the breakthrough just before half-time when Gabi’s cross to the far post was looped back across goal and over the helpless Casilla from Tiago.
The champions were dealt a blow at the start of the second period as Tiago hobbled off to be replaced by Suarez.
However, it was the Spanish midfielder who was in the right place to tap home Gimenez’s header across goal as Espanyol struggled to defend a corner 20 minutes from time.

Important questions to consider
1. Where on the plane does my pet travel?
There are different types of travel available for pets:
- Manifest cargo
- Excess luggage in the hold
- Excess luggage in the cabin
Each option is safe. The feasibility of each option is based on the size and breed of your pet, the airline they are traveling on and country they are travelling to.
2. What is the difference between my pet traveling as manifest cargo or as excess luggage?
If traveling as manifest cargo, your pet is traveling in the front hold of the plane and can travel with or without you being on the same plane. The cost of your pets travel is based on volumetric weight, in other words, the size of their travel crate.
If traveling as excess luggage, your pet will be in the rear hold of the plane and must be traveling under the ticket of a human passenger. The cost of your pets travel is based on the actual (combined) weight of your pet in their crate.
3. What happens when my pet arrives in the country they are traveling to?
As soon as the flight arrives, your pet will be taken from the plane straight to the airport terminal.
If your pet is traveling as excess luggage, they will taken to the oversized luggage area in the arrival hall. Once you clear passport control, you will be able to collect them at the same time as your normal luggage. As you exit the airport via the ‘something to declare’ customs channel you will be asked to present your pets travel paperwork to the customs official and / or the vet on duty.
If your pet is traveling as manifest cargo, they will be taken to the Animal Reception Centre. There, their documentation will be reviewed by the staff of the ARC to ensure all is in order. At the same time, relevant customs formalities will be completed by staff based at the arriving airport.
4. How long does the travel paperwork and other travel preparations take?
This depends entirely on the location that your pet is traveling to. Your pet relocation compnay will provide you with an accurate timeline of how long the relevant preparations will take and at what point in the process the various steps must be taken.
In some cases they can get your pet ‘travel ready’ in a few days. In others it can be up to six months or more.
5. What vaccinations does my pet need to travel?
Regardless of where your pet is traveling, they will need certain vaccinations. The exact vaccinations they need are entirely dependent on the location they are traveling to. The one vaccination that is mandatory for every country your pet may travel to is a rabies vaccination.
Other vaccinations may also be necessary. These will be advised to you as relevant. In every situation, it is essential to keep your vaccinations current and to not miss a due date, even by one day. To do so could severely hinder your pets travel plans.

Ten tax points to be aware of in 2026
1. Domestic VAT refund amendments: request your refund within five years
If a business does not apply for the refund on time, they lose their credit.
2. E-invoicing in the UAE
Businesses should continue preparing for the implementation of e-invoicing in the UAE, with 2026 a preparation and transition period ahead of phased mandatory adoption.
3. More tax audits
Tax authorities are increasingly using data already available across multiple filings to identify audit risks.
4. More beneficial VAT and excise tax penalty regime
Tax disputes are expected to become more frequent and more structured, with clearer administrative objection and appeal processes. The UAE has adopted a new penalty regime for VAT and excise disputes, which now mirrors the penalty regime for corporate tax.
5. Greater emphasis on statutory audit
There is a greater need for the accuracy of financial statements. The International Financial Reporting Standards standards need to be strictly adhered to and, as a result, the quality of the audits will need to increase.
6. Further transfer pricing enforcement
Transfer pricing enforcement, which refers to the practice of establishing prices for internal transactions between related entities, is expected to broaden in scope. The UAE will shortly open the possibility to negotiate advance pricing agreements, or essentially rulings for transfer pricing purposes.
7. Limited time periods for audits
Recent amendments also introduce a default five-year limitation period for tax audits and assessments, subject to specific statutory exceptions. While the standard audit and assessment period is five years, this may be extended to up to 15 years in cases involving fraud or tax evasion.
8. Pillar 2 implementation
Many multinational groups will begin to feel the practical effect of the Domestic Minimum Top-Up Tax (DMTT), the UAE's implementation of the OECD’s global minimum tax under Pillar 2. While the rules apply for financial years starting on or after January 1, 2025, it is 2026 that marks the transition to an operational phase.
9. Reduced compliance obligations for imported goods and services
Businesses that apply the reverse-charge mechanism for VAT purposes in the UAE may benefit from reduced compliance obligations.
10. Substance and CbC reporting focus
Tax authorities are expected to continue strengthening the enforcement of economic substance and Country-by-Country (CbC) reporting frameworks. In the UAE, these regimes are increasingly being used as risk-assessment tools, providing tax authorities with a comprehensive view of multinational groups’ global footprints and enabling them to assess whether profits are aligned with real economic activity.
