Tottenham Hotspur stun Ajax in miracle comeback to book Champions League final place

Whatever Liverpool can do, Tottenham Hotspur can do. The mother of all comebacks completed by Liverpool against Barcelona was thought to have been an isolated miracle.

On Wednesday evening in a stunned Ajax Amsterdam stadium, Tottenham Hotspur booked their place to the Champions League Final to set up an all-English affair in Madrid, thanks to a dramatic 96-minute goal.

Having been 1-0 down from the first leg, Lucas Moura capped an astonishing Tottenham fightback against Ajax with a hat trick.

Spurs had started badly after conceding a fifth-minute header from 19-year-old Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt.

Ajax’s youthful exuberance, sweeping away Juventus and Real Madrid in previous rounds, looked to have added Tottenham to the bag when Hakim Ziyech doubled Ajax's lead on the night.

That did not stop the English side believing they could mount a comeback, having seen what happened at Anfield the night before.

Two goals in five minutes from Moura, who was composed in front of goal in the absence of top striker Harry Kane, dragged Spurs back into the frame.

Deep into stoppage time, Moura added a third 16 yards out to send the travelling Spurs fans wild with jubilation.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was reduced to tears as Tottenham players piled on top of each other. Ajax, meanwhile, hunched to the floor in despair.

A first final beckons for the north London club in what is possibly the most unpredictable Champions League in years.
