Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed has sent his congratulations to Pep Guardiola and his players after they retained the Premier League title by a single point from Liverpool on Sunday.

After falling behind to a Glenn Murray header at Brighton & Hove Albion, City responded through strikes from Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan to run out 4-1 winners at the Amex Stadium.

The victory ensured City finished the season on 98 points, one ahead of rivals Liverpool, who beat Wolves 2-0 at Anfield in their final game of the campaign.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Presidential Affairs tweeted: "We congratulate Manchester City team winning the English Premier League football tournament for the second consecutive season and the sixth in its history, and we applaud the spirit of victory of the team and its players and members of the technical apparatus and the actors and fans and fans of Manchester City everywhere, wishing the team more victories."

It is the fourth time City have won the Premier League since Abu Dhabi's takeover in 2008 and second in succession after Guardiola's squad romped to the 2018 title, becoming the first English top-flight team to register 100 points.
