Al Jazira have announced the surprise signing of Omar Abdulrahman as the UAE international returns to the Arabian Gulf League (AGL) after a 12-month spell in Saudi Arabia.
The 27 year old had been expected to rejoin Al Ain, the side with who he won four AGL titles with between 2008 and 2018.
But Jazira announced on social media on Thursday morning they had signed Abdulrahman.
He was quoted in a Twitter post from the Abu Dhabi club as saying: "Optimistic about the future and I believe we will celebrate a lot of good things together."
There are no public details yet on the length of contract that Abdulrahman has signed.
Abdulrahman left Al Ain last August on a free transfer to Al Hilal, although his time there was blighted by a knee injury sustained during the Saudi Pro League match against Al Shabab Riyadh on October 20.
He later underwent surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament and has not played competitively since.
The UAE’s standout player, Abdulrahman missed the 2019 Asian Cup earlier this year, which took place in the Emirates, where they reached the semi-finals.
He was included initially in new manager Bert van Marwijk’s first squad for a training camp last month, but did not eventually take part in Austria as he conducted medical tests to prove his recovery from injury.
Hilal released a statement last month saying that, given the protracted nature of the discussions regarding a contract renewal, they had terminated negotiations with Abdulrahman.
Meanwhile, Amer Abdulrahman has also been signed by Jazira.
He said in the club's Twitter post: "I will give everything to be at my best and to repay the club for the opportunity."
