No rest for Manchester City as players get straight to training in Abu Dhabi

Pep Guardiola said after the 2-0 Premier League victory over Stoke City that there would be no let up in Manchester City's imperious charge to the Premier League title - where they sit 16 points clear of nearest challengers Manchester United - as well as their pursuit of a first Uefa Champions League trophy.

He wasn't joking. It's only Wednesday and so far this week City beat Stoke on Monday evening, flew to Abu Dhabi early hours of Tuesday and then trained that afternoon.

So much for "train, lunch, dinner, golf".

Captain Vincent Kompany, Bernardo Silva, Danilo, Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne were among City's galaxy of stars to take part in light training on the lush grounds of the Emirates Palace Hotel Tuesday afternoon.

Kyle Walker, City's marauding right-back, even took a turn in goal, denying several of his teammates in a light-hearted shooting practice including regular goalkeeper Ederson.

City have already secured silverware this season after beating Arsenal 3-0 in last month's League Cup final at Wembley, Guardiola's first trophy at the club.

As well as sitting clear at the summit, the Premier League leaders are also in with a strong chance of winning Europe’s premier prize - the Champions League for the first time after reaching the quarter-finals following a 5-2 aggregate victory over Basel in the last 16.

The draw for the Champions League last eight takes place on Friday and Guardiola will watch it live, along with his first-team squad, in the capital before departing for Manchester on Saturday.

Win a chance to meet the Manchester City team!
