Bournemouth twice came from behind to draw a thrilling south coast derby with Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium in the first Premier League game of the year. Bournemouth got off to the worst possible start in the fifth minute when Brighton's Anthony Knockaert rounded off a flowing move by squeezing the ball in at the far post for his second goal of the season. However, it was far from one-way traffic and both goalkeepers were kept busy before Steve Cook equalised with a clever back-flick header from a corner. Glenn Murray also scored against his former side to restore Brighton's lead at the start of the second half and the home side should have had a third when Jose Izquierdo shot instead of passing to Davy Propper, who was perfectly placed to score. Bournemouth took full advantage and, after Jordan Ibe hit a post, equalised for the second time after a protracted scramble in the area from another corner. The ball eventually fell to Callum Wilson who stuck out a boot to divert the ball into the net.

An added-time winner from Ragnar Klavan gave Liverpool a dramatic 2-1 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor and extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 16 matches. Johann Berg Gudmundsson's stooping header in the 87th minute for the home side looked to have frustrated Liverpool before the visitors' Estonian defender Klavan bundled the ball in at the back post from a Dejan Lovren header. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp made seven changes from the side that beat visiting Leicester City on Saturday with Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho out injured and forward Roberto Firmino left on the bench. A stunning 61st minute strike from Sadio Mane, who blasted the ball home on the turn from the edge of the area, had put fourth-placed Liverpool ahead.

Leicester City 3 Huddersfield Town 0
Leicester: Mahrez (53'), Slimani (60'), Albrighton (90'+2)
Riyad Mahrez scored one and set up another as Leicester City strolled to a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Monday. In a tepid first half, Wilfred Ndidi came closest to scoring, but sliced wide from a good position after Islam Slimani had caused problems on his return to the side. After the break, the game came to life, as Mahrez brilliantly volleyed home in the 53rd minute, before Slimani deftly added a second seven minutes later for his first league goal of the season. Huddersfield had just one shot on target all match as they struggled to get going, while Leicester gave a run out to new signing Adrien Silva after he was given clearance to play. Marc Albrighton netted a late third to seal a victory that sees Leicester stay eighth, while Huddersfield remain 11th despite their first defeat in five.

Stoke City 0 Newcastle United 1
Newcastle: Pérez (73')
Newcastle United recorded back-to-back Premier League wins on the road for the first time since 2014 as an Ayoze Perez goal led them to a 1-0 win over Stoke City. Stoke's defensive woes continued as Newcastle threatened the hosts' goal multiple times in the first half but failed to convert, with defender Ciaran Clark missing the most clear-cut chance as he fluffed a close range tap-in just before the half hour mark. Newcastle continued to create chances in the second half with midfielder Jacob Murphy charging past the tiring Stoke defenders in the 73rd minute to feed the ball to the oncoming Perez, with the Spaniard making a cool finish to seal the win. Stoke have now conceded 47 goals in 22 league games and slip to 16th in the rankings, just two points above the relegation zone having played two more games than 18th-placed West Ham United. Newcastle climb to 13th after a much-needed win.
