Both sides are filled with match-winners who can shape the action in Madrid

  Hugo Lloris (Tottenham). Needs to have a great game. Capable of brilliance but also a howler. His late blunder at Anfield in March cost Spurs a point and the French World Cup winner cannot afford any mistakes. AFP

  Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool). Both he and Liverpool's other full-back Andrew Robertson will worry Tottenham when they get forward. Crossing from the flanks has led to a number of goals for Liverpool this season. Alexander-Arnold has 12 assists in the league, the third highest, and also takes a mean free-kick. EPA

  Kieran Trippier (Tottenham). Has himself admitted he has not had a great season after his success with England last summer. Needs to deal with Robertson coming forward but also must get involved when Spurs are in the ascendancy and look to offer width on the right flank. Reuters

  Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool). Will look to dominate the backline for his side again and Tottenham's forwards face a tough night in Madrid getting anything out of him. Will also be a major threat at set-pieces as his goal at Bayern Munich proved. EPA

  Dele Alli (Tottenham). The midfielder can control a game when he is at his best. Inconsistency is a concern though and can disappear too often in games. If Tottenham are to prevail you feel Alli will need to step up and prove he is a big-game player. AP Photo

  Fabinho (Liverpool). The midfield duel will be fascinating and it is vital for Liverpool that Fabinho sees plenty of the ball as it is normally the common theme when he plays well his side does too. EPA

  Son Heung-min (Tottenham). The South Korean has played a huge role in Tottenham's run to their first European Cup final. His pace can stretch Liverpool and another big night for the forward would not be a surprise. EPA

  Roberto Firmino (Liverpool). Having the Brazilian fit again is a huge boost to Liverpool. Links up the play well with Salah and Sadio Mane. Scored against Tottenham in both Premier League games this season. EPA

  Harry Kane (Tottenham). Will he start or won't he start? Mauricio Pochettino has a big decision to make, but just having the English striker involved in the conversation at all, after his season appeared to be ended by an ankle injury, is a bonus. EPA

The Uefa Champions League final is being contested by Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in Madrid on Saturday night at 11pm UAE time.

It is only the second time that the game is being played by two English sides, following in the footsteps of the 2008 final between Manchester United and Chelsea.

For Liverpool it is the chance to win the competition for a sixth time and also give Jurgen Klopp his first trophy on Merseyside since he took over as manager in late 2015.

For Tottenham success would also give Mauricio Pochettino a first trophy at the club and also give them their first ever European Cup win.
