Kai Havertz ended his troubled first campaign at Chelsea as the hero as they won the Champions League at the expense of Manchester City in Portugal.

The German forward, who has struggled with illness, injury and poor form since his big-money signing last summer, struck the decisive goal in the first half of the final.

Three minutes before half time, Mason Mount played an incisive pass through the centre of the City defence.

Havertz raced on to the ball, skipped past Ederson, and placed the ball into the empty net.

City lost their captain Kevin De Bruyne to injury after a clash of heads with Antonio Rudiger after the break, and they were unable to find an equaliser.

What is graphene?

Graphene is extracted from graphite and is made up of pure carbon.

It is 200 times more resistant than steel and five times lighter than aluminum.

It conducts electricity better than any other material at room temperature.

It is thought that graphene could boost the useful life of batteries by 10 per cent.

Graphene can also detect cancer cells in the early stages of the disease.

The material was first discovered when Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov were 'playing' with graphite at the University of Manchester in 2004.
