The draw against Napoli has thrown a spanner in the works of Liverpool as they look to make it to the Champions League last 16. Jurgen Klopp's team now have to avoid defeat at Salzburg to ensure entry into the knockout stage.
But the critical match against Salzburg on December 10 is not the only issue on the Klopp’s mind. Liverpool’s fixture list for the next month is bursting at its seams and it is likely to be the single biggest challenge facing Klopp and the Reds.
Liverpool play 10 matches over the next 30 days, which is incredible even by modern standards. They include seven Premier League fixtures, one match against Aston Villa in the League Cup on December 17 and two Club World Cup matches in Qatar.
Klopp admitted that a win against Napoli would have made his task a bit easier as that would have made the Salzburg match a dead rubber. But now his team can’t afford to relax.
“I am four years in, tell me when it was easy,” he said on Wednesday.
“I know how human beings are, people wished we could finish the group tonight and have a holiday game against Salzburg but it never happens, it will never happen. That is the situation.”
