Round 12 of the Premier League saw some surprise results - and another nightmare for Arsenal

  Goalkeeper: Alisson Becker (Liverpool) – A string of saves denied Fulham victory. Vicente Guaita, Nick Pope and Emi Martinez also excelled on a weekend of fine goalkeeping. Reuters

  Right-back: Bobby Decordova-Reid (Fulham) – Reinvented as a right wing-back, he nonetheless scored in emphatic fashion and defended doggedly against Liverpool. AP

  Centre-back: Michael Keane (Everton) – A rock at the back with a series of clearances and blocks as Chelsea had 72 percent of possession but Everton kept a clean sheet in victory. Reuters

  Centre-back: Ben Mee (Burnley) – A rock at the back as he captained Burnley to their first away win at Arsenal since 1974. All their points this season have come with clean sheets. Reuters

  Left-back: Aaron Cresswell (West Ham) – West Ham’s set-piece expertise earned them victory at Elland Road and Cresswell’s late free kick was headed in by Angelo Ogbonna. Getty

  Right midfield: Stuart Armstrong (Southampton) – Kept up his fine form by scoring and starring in the 3-0 win over Sheffield United as Saints went into the top four. Getty

  Centre midfield: John McGinn (Aston Villa) – Helped decide a derby by earning 10-man Aston Villa the injury-time penalty Anwar El Ghazi converted to beat Wolves. AP

  Centre midfield: James Maddison (Leicester) – Scored his first Premier League brace. His second against Brighton was sublime, with a stepover and a curling finish. AP

  Left midfield: Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace) – The catalyst for Crystal Palace’s comeback against Tottenham. The former QPR winger’s trickery has made him an instant hit in the top flight. PA

  Centre forward: Dwight Gayle (Newcastle) – Showed his former club West Bromwich Albion what they are missing with an emphatic header to get Newcastle back-to-back wins. PA

  Centre forward: Jamie Vardy (Leicester) – Kept up his quest to retain the Golden Boot with a predatory finish and also got an assist in Leicester’s 3-0 win over Brighton. PA

An astounding round of Premier League fixtures, with Manchester United and Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham all failing to win.

Plus a defeat for Arsenal, which saw them slide to 15th in the table.

West Ham got the action underway on Friday night, with a 2-1 win at Leeds United.

In Saturday's early game, Aston Villa snatched a late win at Wolves, before Newcastle recorded a welcome victory against West Bromwich Albion.

The Manchester derby ended in stalemate, while Chelsea suffered a rare defeat at Everton.

Sunday began with a comfortable 3-0 win for Southampton against bottom club Sheffield United, while Crystal Palace held Tottenham to a 1-1 draw, the same scoreline as Fulham against Liverpool.

Arsenal have now had their worst start to a season for nearly 40 years after losing at home to Burnley, and Leicester took advantage of all the carnage when they beat Brighton 3-0.
