  NEWCASTLE RATINGS: Karl Darlow - 6: No chance with either drilled finish, but brought some undue pressure onto his side with some lax distribution. Kept the hosts in it at the end with a block on Barnes with his face. AP

  DeAndre Yedlin - 5: Looked to be feeling the cold, as he was wearing long johns under his shorts, but got through enough running to keep himself warm. Willing in attack and defence on the right flank, but loose on the ball. AFP

  LEICESTER RATINGS: Kasper Schmeichel - 7: Cleared up a Newcastle counter attack near the halfway line in the first half, and was busy in the sweeper-keeper role, if not shot-stopping. EPA

  James Justin - 6: Picked up a mindless booking for a sneaky trip on Sean Longstaff when the Foxes were cruising with 10 minutes to go. It led to Carroll’s goal and a nervy finish for the away side. AP

  Wesley Fofana - 7: Remarkably composed, given he is only 20, as well as the fact Wilson barely gave him a moment’s peace, although he did look aggrieved when the forward trod on his foot. AFP

  Marc Albrighton - 7: Had more joy once the game started to open up after the opening goal, first with one slaloming run into the Newcastle box, then a classy assist for Tielemans’ goal. EPA

  Youri Tielemans - 8: Fine interchange with Vardy gave him an early chance, but he looked surprised to received the return from the striker. Booked for a cynical challenge on Almiron, but laughed last with a sweet goal. Reuters

  James Maddison - 9: Set the tone with an early shot. Recovered from a nasty-looking knee injury midway through the first half as he was at the heart of all the Foxes’ best work. Power and precision for the opening goal. Getty

  Harvey Barnes - 7: Closed in on a dangerous scoring position near the end of the first half, only for the ball to hit him while he was trying to take evasive action. Played a key role in Maddison’s opener. EPA

  Jamie Vardy - 7: Unselfish assist for Tielemans early on when he was well placed to shoot. Most of his more spectacular moments came when he was offside, having the ball in the goal once, and striking the bar another time. EPA

Leicester City climbed to third place in the Premier League as goals from James Maddison and Youri Tielemans sealed a 2-1 win against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers' side struck twice in the second half at St James' Park.

Andy Carroll reduced the deficit with his first goal for Newcastle in over 10 years, but it was too late to rescue a point.

Leicester were good value for their first win in three league games as they extended their unbeaten run to four matches.

The Foxes are one point behind leaders Liverpool, who face Southampton on Monday.
