Al Ain suffered a second successive defeat in the Asian Champions League when the Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr came from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 victory at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Tuesday.
Omar Yaisien had given the hosts an early lead but the visitors hit back twice in the second half through Mukhtar Ali and the Moroccan Abderrazak Hamdallah to return with full points.
The result left Al Ain at the bottom of the Group D table and took Nassr’s tally to four points after their 2-2 draw against Al Sadd in last week’s opener, level with the Qatari side.
Al Ain had taken the lead after 18 minutes when Togolese international Kodjo Laba worked his way down the right flank and sent over a low cross to the unmarked Yaisien and the 19-year-old midfielder finished past Nassr goalkeeper Brad Jones.
Al Ain had a couple of chances to double their lead only for Yaisien to lose control of the ball inside the area with only Jones to beat and then Caio Canedo fired wide from outside the area.
They were made to pay for those missed opportunities when Nassr struck 12 minutes into the second half, with Ali connecting with a Nordin Amrabat free-kick to finish at the near post.
The visitors grabbed the winner ten minutes from time, after a dreadful error by Khalid Eisa. The Al Ain goalkeeper failed to clear the ball from outside the area and Hamdallah stole in to fire the ball into an empty net.
It was hugely frustrating for Eisa, who had pulled off a couple of excellent saves to deny the visitors an earlier lead.
The Emirati international pushed out curling shot from Amrabat and then blocked a powerful header from the ensuing corner to deny the Moroccan winger once again.
At least Al Ain had produced a far better performance than last week's humiliating 4-0 home thrashing by the Iranian outfit Sepahan.
In Group C, Sharjah came twice from behind to salvage a 2-2 result over Iranian side Persepolis at the Sharjah Stadium.
All the goals came in the first half as Ali Alipour twice put the visitors ahead, only for Sharjah to hit back through Mohammed Khalfan and Ryan Mendes.
Sharjah sit bottom of Group C, level with Persepolis on one point, as Saudi side Al-Taawoun top the table with a maximum six from two games.

The number of asylum applications in the UK has reached a new record high, driven by those illegally entering the country in small boats crossing the English Channel.
A total of 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025, the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001.
Asylum seekers and their families can be housed in temporary accommodation while their claim is assessed.
The Home Office provides the accommodation, meaning asylum seekers cannot choose where they live.
When there is not enough housing, the Home Office can move people to hotels or large sites like former military bases.

What is Folia?
Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal's new plant-based menu will launch at Four Seasons hotels in Dubai this November. A desire to cater to people looking for clean, healthy meals beyond green salad is what inspired Prince Khaled and American celebrity chef Matthew Kenney to create Folia. The word means "from the leaves" in Latin, and the exclusive menu offers fine plant-based cuisine across Four Seasons properties in Los Angeles, Bahrain and, soon, Dubai.
Kenney specialises in vegan cuisine and is the founder of Plant Food Wine and 20 other restaurants worldwide. "I’ve always appreciated Matthew’s work," says the Saudi royal. "He has a singular culinary talent and his approach to plant-based dining is prescient and unrivalled. I was a fan of his long before we established our professional relationship."
Folia first launched at The Four Seasons Hotel Los Angeles at Beverly Hills in July 2018. It is available at the poolside Cabana Restaurant and for in-room dining across the property, as well as in its private event space. The food is vibrant and colourful, full of fresh dishes such as the hearts of palm ceviche with California fruit, vegetables and edible flowers; green hearb tacos filled with roasted squash and king oyster barbacoa; and a savoury coconut cream pie with macadamia crust.
In March 2019, the Folia menu reached Gulf shores, as it was introduced at the Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay, where it is served at the Bay View Lounge. Next, on Tuesday, November 1 – also known as World Vegan Day – it will come to the UAE, to the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach and the Four Seasons DIFC, both properties Prince Khaled has spent "considerable time at and love".
There are also plans to take Folia to several more locations throughout the Middle East and Europe.
While health-conscious diners will be attracted to the concept, Prince Khaled is careful to stress Folia is "not meant for a specific subset of customers. It is meant for everyone who wants a culinary experience without the negative impact that eating out so often comes with."
