The World Cup may be over but it isn't going to be forgotten just yet, especially after the fantastic final in which France ran out 4-2 winners over Croatia.

So it is time to take stock of events from the past month - the success stories and failures, who deserves to recognised as a World Cup legend, and who turned out to be a massive disappointment.

When The National issued its World Cup wallchart, it also picked a key player from each squad who looked set to star in the footballing jamboree ahead.
