Cardiff City supporters paid tribute to Emiliano Sala on Saturday in emotional scenes before the Welsh club won their Premier League clash with Bournemouth.

Sala, who had just completed a deal to join the Welsh side from Nantes, was on a plane with pilot David Ibbotson that disappeared over the English Channel on January 21.

A minute's silence was observed before the game, with supporters holding up a mosaic of Sala's name, in the colours of Argentina, to honour the 28 year old.

The match day programme said in it: "Emiliano is not with us this afternoon but we are praying for him and David."

Cardiff triumphed 2-0 and after scoring the first goal Bobby Reid and teammates held aloft a T-shirt displaying Sala's face.

Manager Neil Warnock said: "I was very emotional, I was all right until the final whistle went and I went on the pitch. I can't begin to explain to you how difficult it has been."
