Leicester City have one foot in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals after beating Danish side Randers 4-1 at the King Power Stadium on Thursday.

Midfielder Wilfried Ndidi put the Foxes in front with a side-footed finish from Ademola Lookman's pass in the 23rd minute.

But the defensive frailties of Brendan Rodgers' side resurfaced just before half-time when Vito Hammershoej-Mistrati levelled for Randers against the run of play, despite goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel getting a glove to the shot.

Leicester came flying out of the blocks in the second half, though, with the always dangerous Harvey Barnes restoring their lead with a good finish on the turn four minutes after the break.

Patson Daka poked home a third from close range five minutes later — although the goal might have been disallowed for offside had VAR been in operation — and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall deservedly got himself on the scoresheet with a simple finish after good work by substitute Kelechi Iheanacho.

After inconsistent performances in the Premier League — where the Foxes currently sit down in 11th — and an embarrassing 4-1 FA Cup thrashing by second-tier Nottingham Forest, the pressure has been building on Rodgers and his side.

But they came through this test with little problems, although substitute James Maddison being forced to come off due to illness and defender Caglar Soyuncu's late injury will be sources of concern.

“I am loving it. I am a kid playing for his boyhood club. It is a dream come true,” said Dewsbury-Hall after the match. “Every minute I spend on the pitch I will give the best I can because I am proud to play for this club. I know the results will come and it is exciting times ahead.

“We wanted to give the crowd something to be happy about. We got the win and they can go home happy. We know this is a great opportunity to secure European football again. We go into this tournament pushing ourselves as hard as we can to win it.”
