JOHANNESBURG // The six-time winners Al Ahly of Egypt, the defending champions TP Mazembe of DR Congo and Esperance of Tunisia have joined the Algerian club JS Kabylie in the semi-finals of the African Champions League as the Road to Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup in December heats up. The four will contest the two-legged semi-finals, but the last four matches are still to be finalised with Esperance and Mazembe battling for the top spot in Group A with one round of games to go.
Mazembe shook off the resignation of their coach Diego Garzitto to reach the semi-finals with yesterday's 2-1 home win over Dynamos. Esperance drew 2-2 with Entente S'if on Saturday, but it was still good enough. Kabylie edged Ismaily 1-0 on Friday to clinch top spot in Group B, while Al Ahly qualified with a 2-1 victory over Heartland in Cairo yesterday. * Associated Press
