WEST HAM UNITED v BOURNEMOUTH

Callum Wilson scored a memorable hat-trick as Bournemouth picked up their first-ever Premier League victory in style at the expense of 10-man West Ham.

Having played well in their opening two league games and having nothing to show for it, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe kept faith in the team that lost at Liverpool and they were the better side here and fully deserved their 4-3 win.

Darren Randolph replaced the suspended Adrian in goal for the hosts and much was made of the fact he had shipped 16 goals in his last three games against Bournemouth.

But the fact he was named West Ham’s official man of the match speaks volumes for how badly the rest of his teammates performed as Aaron Cresswell presented the visitors with their opening two goals and Carl Jenkinson became the fifth West Ham player to be sent off this season.

Wilson struck twice in the first-half with the Hammers all over the place but an early charge after the interval saw Slaven Bilic’s side pull level through a Mark Noble penalty and a Cheikhou Kouyate goal.

Any hopes of a remarkable turn around were ended when substitute Marc Pugh put Bournemouth back in front, with Wilson completing his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Jenkinson had been dismissed for pulling back Max Gradel.

West Ham got one back through substitute Modibo Maiga but no late onslaught arrived and Bournemouth collected their first three points of the campaign.

SUNDERLAND v SWANSEA CITY

Jermain Defoe answered Sunderland’s call in their hour of need to hand head coach Dick Advocaat a first Premier league point of the season.

The 32-year-old striker slid home a trademark 62nd-minute equaliser to cancel out Bafetimbi Gomis’ opener in first-half injury time and deny Swansea victory at the Stadium of Light.

The 1-1 draw was no more than the Black Cats deserved from a much-improved performance, although they might still have emerged empty-handed had it not been for the heroics of goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon as the visitors pushed for the win.

CRYSTAL PALACE v ASTON VILLA

Bakary Sako struck a late winner on his debut to stifle debate surrounding another controversial offside decision in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 defeat of Aston Villa.

Sako, who joined from Wolves in the summer, struck three minutes from time, exploiting a defensive mix-up from Villa to give Palace a deserved win.

The visitors had already benefited from defensive indecision when Pape Souare diverted Adama Traore’s cross into his own net to cancel out Scott Dann’s header.

NORWICH CITY v STOKE CITY

England goalkeeper Jack Butland produced a man-of-the-match display to earn Stoke a 1-1 draw at Norwich.

The 22-year-old pulled off a string of impressive saves to deny Norwich during a second-half onslaught.

Stoke had taken an early lead through Mame Diouf, heading in a fine free-kick from debutant Xherdan Shaqiri, only for Norwich captain Russell Martin to level following a drinks break in the sweltering Norfolk temperatures.

After both Cameron Jerome and Wes Hoolahan spurned good chances, Butland produced saves out of the top drawer to thwart Nathan Redmond and then Graham Dorrans twice as Stoke held out for a point.

LEICESTER CITY v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Tottenham remained winless in the Premier League after being held to a 1-1 draw by unbeaten Leicester on Saturday.

In a lively final 10 minutes, Dele Alli put Tottenham in front but it was quickly cancelled out by Riyad Mahrez.
