Simona Halep entered the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships as the top seed, but she made sure this week wasn’t all about tennis by enjoying a camel ride in the desert.
“This is my first chance to ride a camel,” the world No 3 said. “It wasn’t easy to start but now I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s nice to try something different, I love to be in Dubai, it is so different to other places.”
Haelp takes on Daniela Hantuchova in her second round match - her first of the tournament having a received a first round bye - and the Romanian is in confident spirits.
“I feel great, I’m ready to start the competition,” she said. “I hope my first match is easier than it has been in the past. I’m looking forward to playing my best tennis on court, let’s see what happens!”
