Ashes hero Steve Smith and fellow batsman David Warner have been recalled to the Australia Twenty20 squad to play Sri Lanka and Pakistan, marking an end to their time in the international wilderness in all formats.
Smith and Warner were banned for a year for their roles in a ball-tampering scandal but have returned to Australia's Test, one-day and now Twenty20 sides.
The 14-man squad named Tuesday will face Sri Lanka and Pakistan in coming weeks but with an eye firmly on next year's World Cup, which will be held in Australia.
"We are delighted to welcome Steve Smith and David Warner back into the T20 international fold," chief selector Trevor Hohns said.
"Steve is a world-class batsman in all formats, while Warner is Australia's highest ever T20 runs scorer. He was also the leading runs scorer at this year's Indian Premier League with Sunrisers Hyderabad."
The recalls of Smith and Warner closes the book on the darkest chapter in Australia's cricket history after the pair were banned from cricket alongside Cameron Bancroft for their part in "Sandpapergate" during the March 2018 Test against South Africa at Newlands.
Bancroft was caught by television cameras trying to rough up one side of the ball with sandpaper to make it swing. Captain Smith and vice-captain Warner were found to be involved and all three received unprecedented sanctions from Cricket Australia.
Smith returned to the Test fold in spectacular fashion this summer, scoring 774 runs including three centuries and one double century as Australia drew 2-2 with England to retain the Ashes.
"It is almost a year to the day until Australia hosts the men's Twenty20 World Cup and we have selected this squad with that in mind," Hohns added.
"We have looked to put a squad together that we think can take us through to that tournament."
Despite their success in other formats, Australia have never won a Twenty20 World Cup, with an appearance in the 2010 final their best showing.
They are currently ranked fifth in the world but will be desperate to succeed on home soil in October-November next year.
Aaron Finch retains the captain's armband, with wicketkeeper Alex Carey and paceman Pat Cummins sharing vice-captain duties.
The batting ranks are bolstered by the return of Ashton Turner from a finger injury, while Adam Zampa got the call ahead of Nathan Lyon as the preferred spinner.
Cummins and Mitchell Starc will likely open the bowling attack, backed up by Andrew Tye, Kane Richardson and Billy Stanlake.
The three-match series against Sri Lanka begins in Adelaide on October 27, followed by another three Twenty20s against Pakistan opening on November 3 in Sydney.

How the bonus system works
The two riders are among several riders in the UAE to receive the top payment of £10,000 under the Thank You Fund of £16 million (Dh80m), which was announced in conjunction with Deliveroo's £8 billion (Dh40bn) stock market listing earlier this year.
The £10,000 (Dh50,000) payment is made to those riders who have completed the highest number of orders in each market.
There are also riders who will receive payments of £1,000 (Dh5,000) and £500 (Dh2,500).
All riders who have worked with Deliveroo for at least one year and completed 2,000 orders will receive £200 (Dh1,000), the company said when it announced the scheme.

Who is Enric Sala?
Enric Sala is an expert on marine conservation and is currently the National Geographic Society's Explorer-in-Residence. His love of the sea started with his childhood in Spain, inspired by the example of the legendary diver Jacques Cousteau. He has been a university professor of Oceanography in the US, as well as working at the Spanish National Council for Scientific Research and is a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Biodiversity and the Bio-Economy. He has dedicated his life to protecting life in the oceans. Enric describes himself as a flexitarian who only eats meat occasionally.
What is biodiversity?
According to the United Nations Environment Programme, all life on earth – including in its forests and oceans – forms a “rich tapestry of interconnecting and interdependent forces”. Biodiversity on earth today is the product of four billion years of evolution and consists of many millions of distinct biological species. The term ‘biodiversity’ is relatively new, popularised since the 1980s and coinciding with an understanding of the growing threats to the natural world including habitat loss, pollution and climate change. The loss of biodiversity itself is dangerous because it contributes to clean, consistent water flows, food security, protection from floods and storms and a stable climate. The natural world can be an ally in combating global climate change but to do so it must be protected. Nations are working to achieve this, including setting targets to be reached by 2020 for the protection of the natural state of 17 per cent of the land and 10 per cent of the oceans. However, these are well short of what is needed, according to experts, with half the land needed to be in a natural state to help avert disaster.

What is Reform?

Countdown to Zero exhibition will show how disease can be beaten
Countdown to Zero: Defeating Disease, an international multimedia exhibition created by the American Museum of National History in collaboration with The Carter Center, will open in Abu Dhabi a month before Reaching the Last Mile.
Opening on October 15 and running until November 15, the free exhibition opens at The Galleria mall on Al Maryah Island, and has already been seen at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum in Atlanta, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
