Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah on Sunday created history by becoming the youngest in history to pick up a Test hat-trick.
Shah, at the age of 16 years and 359 days, picked up three wickets off successive deliveries late on the third day of the Rawalpindi Test to enter the record books and put the hosts on the verge of a big win.
Bangladesh are facing certain defeat after being reduced to 126-6 in reply to Pakistan's first innings score of 445. They trail Pakistan by 86 runs with four wickets in hand, having being bowled out for 233 in their first innings.
The Tigers were in good position in the final session on 124-2. But Shah unsettled the batsmen with his pace and late swing as he first had Najmul Hossain lbw before trapping Taijul Islam in front of the stumps. He again went full for the hat-trick ball and Mahmudullah couldn’t resist a drive, which he edged to first slip.
Shah broke the record of Bangladesh’s Alok Kapali who achieved the feat at the age of 19 in 2003. Leg-spinner Yasir Shah picked up 2-33 to keep the pressure up from the other end.
Earlier, Pakistan were bowled out for 445 with Babar Azam making 143 and Haris Sohail 75. The hosts lost seven wickets on either side of lunch to lose their way from 342-3.
Sohail hit seven fours and two sixes to score his third Test half-century. Bangladesh seamers Abu Jayed (3-86), Rubel Hossain (3-113) and Ebadot Hossain (1-97) shared the wickets.
