England have won a Test match in Galle for the first time in their history as their spinners spun them to a 211-run victory in the first Test against Sri Lanka on Friday.
Chasing 462 to win, the Sri Lankans were bowled out for 250 by Joe Root's men, with Rangana Herath, in his last match before retirement, the last man out as he was run out.
England bowled patiently to get their wickets. Sri Lanka's top five all passed 20, but only Angelo Mathews (53) passed fifty.
Mooen Ali again shone with the ball, taking four wickets to finish with match figures of 8-137, while Jack Leach took 3-60.
The second Test in Kandy starts on November 14, with England knowing if they triumph there they will secure a first series win in Sri Lanka for 17 years.
The third Test of the series is in Colombo from November 23.
