MS Dhoni is the only member of the Indian tour squad to have played an international match in UAE. He played in both Abu Dhabi matches in 2006 against Pakistan, scoring a half-century to set up the win in the second game.
Between the time the first official one-day internationals were staged in Sharjah in 1984, and the two-match series in Abu Dhabi in 2006, India and Pakistan have met 26 times in the UAE. Pakistan have won 19 to India’s seven.
Wasim Akram has taken the most wickets of any bowler in limited-overs matches in this country. The former left-arm quick-bowler took 122 scalps at an average of 19.5 from his 77 ODIs in Sharjah.
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has scored more runs than any other batsman in matches in UAE, with a haul of 2,583 from the 61 matches he played in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
The time since India last played Pakistan in UAE, when the teams met in Abu Dhabi. That is 12 and a half years. The previous month, Alastair Cook had made his Test debut.
