Virat Kohli has become the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 runs in one-day international cricket.

The India captain reached this personal landmark in his 205th ODI – against the West Indies in Vizakhapatnam on Wednesday. The next fastest on the list is his former teammate Sachin Tendulkar, who took 259 matches – 54 more than Kohli – to get to five figures.

Kohli became the fifth Indian and 10th Asian player to reach the landmark.

However, he needs to score more than 8,000 runs to overhaul Tendulkar’s aggregate of 18,426 runs in this format. That certainly seems plausible, given that Kohli will turn 30 next month and can realistically expect to play for another 10 years if he maintains his form and fitness.

Check out our slideshow to find out who are the 11 other batsmen to have scored 10,000-plus runs in the 50-overs format – in order of how many matches it took for them to reach the milestone.

It is worth mentioning that Kohli and MS Dhoni are the only players in the list still playing international cricket.
