Former Sri Lanka player Dilhara Lokuhettige charged with corruption during 2017 T10 League in UAE

All-rounder charged by ICC for offences including being party to an effort to fix the result or progress of a match, and directly soliciting, inducing, enticing or encouraging a player to do the same

Former Sri Lanka international Dilhara Lokuhettige has been charged under an anti-corruption code during last year's T10 League in the UAE, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Tuesday.

Lokuhettige, who played nine one-day internationals and two Twenty20 internationals for Sri Lanka, has been charged with three counts of breaching the anti-corruption code of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), the global governing body said.

"Mr Lokuhettige has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect," the ICC said in a statement.

Lokuhettige, 38, had 14 days to respond to the charges, it added.

The charges levied against all-rounder Lokuhettige include being party to an effort to fix the result or progress of a match, and directly soliciting, inducing, enticing or encouraging a player to do the same.

Lokuhettige's case is the latest in a series of corruption scandals that has rocked Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in recent times.

Former paceman and bowling coach Nuwan Zoysa was provisionally suspended on October 31 after being charged by the ICC with match-fixing and promptly sent Zoysa on "compulsory leave" by the SLC.

Former captain Sanath Jayasuriya was last month charged with two counts of breaching the ICC's anti-corruption code. He denies any wrongdoing.

Also in October, SLC's chief financial officer Wimal Nandika Dissanayake was remanded in custody for suspected financial misappropriation linked with awarding telecast rights to Sony TV.

The T10 League, a 10-overs-a-side privately-run venture endorsed by ECB and the ICC, was launched last year and the 2018 edition will be contested by eight teams from November 23-December 2 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Twenty20 globetrotters such as Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum, Sunil Narine and Rashid Khan are standout names who will appear in this year's edition.
