Knight Riders keep their playoff hopes alive with 60-run victory

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS RATINGS: Shubman Gill – 7. Gave his side a bright start with 36 off 24. Holing out to Buttler off Tewatia felt an unnecessary risk, but his side were committed to going for everything. Sportzpics for BCCI

Nitish Rana – 4. Made his third first-ball duck in the past five innings, edging behind to Archer. The other two were innings were brilliant half centuries. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rahul Tripathi – 7. Made a bold counter attack in response to Archer’s early fireworks, before falling for 39 from 34 balls. Sportzpics for BCCI

Sunil Narine – 5. Promoting him in the batting order foundered again, as he went second ball for a duck. His bowling was less threatening than Chakravarthy. Sportzpics for BCCI

Eoin Morgan – 9.5. Played the finest IPL knock of his career to give his side a chance. His unbeaten, 35-ball 68 included 20 off four balls from Gopal. Sportzpics for BCCI

Dinesh Karthik – 8. A golden duck summed up his miserable tournament with the bat, but his glovework was game changing. The catch to dismiss Stokes was epic. Sportzpics for BCCI

Andre Russell – 7. Played through injury, and looked to be finding his hitting range. Then he screamed in anguish as he drilled a catch to substitute fielder David Miller while going for a third successive six. Sportzpics for BCCI

Pat Cummins – 9. Started with a six and then a wide, in a remarkable over that brought him a wicket but went for 19. By the end of his third, he had four wickets, and the game was won. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kamlesh Nagarkoti – 6. Neat and tidy with bat, ball, and in the field, without doing anything particularly eyecatching in any discipline. Sportzpics for BCCI

Shivam Mavi – 8. Had an important job to do on his return to the side, partnering Cummins with the new ball. He carried it off expertly, with two for 15 from four overs, including a maiden. Sportzpics for BCCI

Varun Chakravarthy – 8. Applied for jobs in Dubai as an architect in the past. Instead he is here as a star of the IPL. Two for 20 from his four overs. Sportzpics for BCCI

RAJASTHAN ROYALS RATINGS: Robin Uthappa – 4. Flicked the first ball of the chase for six off Cummins, but bookended the same over with his own downfall. Sportzpics for BCCI

Ben Stokes – 5. Fell to a magnificent catch by Karthik for 18 off 11. Earlier, he had suffered at the hands of his England teammate Morgan with the ball. Sportzpics for BCCI

Steve Smith – 1. Owned by his Australia teammate Cummins for the second time in the competition. Dragged on after making just four to leave his side struggling. Sportzpics for BCCI

Sanju Samson – 4. Held two smart catches during Kolkata’s innings, but nicked off to Mavi when his side needed something special from him. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jos Buttler – 7. Spent much of the fielding effort off the ground. When he batted, he was his side’s last chance, but he went for 35 off 22. Sportzpics for BCCI

Riyan Parag – 3. A seven-ball duck was sealed when he edged a rapid Cummins bouncer behind, leaving Rajasthan mired at 37-5 after five. Sportzpics for BCCI

Rahul Tewatia – 7. The wickets of Gill and Karthik in the space of three balls helped wrestle the momentum back from KKR. Tried with the bat, but the mission was beyond him. Sportzpics for BCCI

Jofra Archer – 8. Set the tone for his side with a blistering first over, and had one for three off his first two overs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Kartik Tyagi – 6. Made a plucky response to being hit for six in successive balls by Russell, and he ended with two for 39 from his four overs. Sportzpics for BCCI

Varun Aaron – 4. His side needed more from their former India fast bowler, but he was only deemed worthy of two overs, which went for 22. Sportzpics for BCCI

Eoin Morgan played the finest innings of his IPL career to give Kolkata Knight Riders a chance of making the playoffs with victory over Rajasthan Royals.

The Kolkata captain blazed 68 in 35 balls to lift his side to 191-7 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Despite the presence of Jofra Archer, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler in their line up, Rajasthan could not get close, as they struggled to 131-9 to fall to a 60-run loss.

Kolkata had started the game in last place in the points table, but the win vaulted them back into the fourth playoff place.
