Kings XI Punjab were thrashed by nine wickets by Chennai Super Kings in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, bringing their IPL 2020 campaign to a close.

Punjab had a simple equation facing them – win and be almost guaranteed of a spot in the playoffs. Instead, they were completely outplayed by Chennai.

Punjab batted first and struggle to put up a challenging total. Lower order batsman Deepak Hooda blasted 62 from 30 balls and even then they could only manage 153-6.

Any hopes of a tight contest quickly evaporated as Chennai openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (62 not out) and Faf du Plessis (48) added 82 for the first wicket. The Super Kings chased down the target with nine wickets and seven balls in hand.

It was a tough game to watch for Kings XI co-owner and Bollywood star Preity Zinta, who was at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.
