South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje is now the owner of a special record. During his team Delhi Capitals' 13-run victory over Rajasthan Royals, Nortje bowled the fastest ball in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Nortje, 26, eclipsed compatriot Dale Steyn's effort of 154.4kph set in 2012, topping the speed gun at 156.22kph (97.07mph).

He finished the match with figures of 2-33 from four overs to take his wickets tally to 10 from eight games for the season.

"I didn't know about it [the fastest ball]. I've been working really hard to get the pace up... but obviously you want to land it in the right areas. That's the most important thing," Nortje said.

Rajasthan Royals bowler Jofra Archer is close behind him in the speed race. In fact, the two have bowled 19 of the 20 fastest deliveries in IPL 2020.
