Chelsea have reportedly opened talks with the representatives of Radamel Falcao over a move for the Colombian striker.
Falcao, who is currently in South America preparing for the Copa America, has been released by Manchester United after failing to impress sufficiently on loan to earn a permanent deal.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the negotiations are being handled by Chelsea director Marina Granosvkaia and Falcao's agent, Jorge Mendes, who also represents Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and striker Diego Costa.
Speaking from Bogota on Friday, Falcao said: “I have a few offers, but my agent’s looking after it”, although it is believed Chelsea is his preferred destination, given his desire to remain in the English Premier League.
One major sticking point could prove Falcao's wages, with Chelsea unwilling to match his current £265,000 (Dh1.49m) a week package, and while the Colombian forward is willing to slash his salary, it is thought Chelsea are requesting an even further cut. However, the Daily Telegraph are claiming there is a strong chance a deal will be agreed.
Chelsea view Falcao as the ideal replacement to back-up striker Didier Drogba, who is leaving the club this summer.
Despite his struggles at United — where he scored just four goals — Falcao’s remarkable goal-scoring record at Porto and Atletico Madrid earned him a reputation as one of the most fearsome strikers in world football.
