Godolphin announced yesterday that Casamento will run in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas over a mile at Newmarket on Saturday. Jockey Frankie Dettori will ride the son of Shamardal in the first British Classic of 2011. Saamidd will join Casamento in the line up and will be ridden by jockey Mickael Barzalona. Godolphin has won this race twice - the first time with Mark Of Esteem in 1996 and with Island Sands in 1999.

Fraser: Surgery saved my career
Marcus Fraser begins the defence of his Ballantine's Championship title today knowing that he is lucky even to be on the tee after a career-threatening neck injury. Fraser had surgery three months ago after having lost feeling in his right arm. "If I had not had the operation, I would never have played golf again," he said. "I probably would have lost the use of my right arm."

CAS name the Contador panel
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) said yesterday the panel which will rule on Alberto Contador's doping case has been formed and a ruling is likely before July's Tour de France. Efraim Barak (Israel), Quentin Byrne-Sutton (Switzerland) and Ulrich Haas (Germany) will be the members. The start of the hearing has yet to be determined.

F1's Fernandes buys Caterham
Team Lotus owner Tony Fernandes has purchased niche sports carmaker Caterham, who produce a modern-day copy of the Lotus 7 designed by the late Colin Chapman, who campaigned Lotus in F1 from the 1960s into the 1980s. Fernandes is in court to continue using the "Lotus" name from carmaker Group Lotus, who are also competing in F1 but as Lotus-Renault.
