Bollinger winning fitness race for the Ashes

Australia expect Doug Bollinger, the fast bowler, to recover from his stomach strain in time to take on England in the Ashes next month.

Australia expect Doug Bollinger, the fast bowler, to recover from his stomach strain in time to take on England in the Ashes next month.

Bollinger suffered the injury in the first Test of the tour of India and also missed the one-day international (ODI) series.

He was left out of the upcoming one-day series against Sri Lanka but is expected to return for Sheffield Shield games before the Ashes, and should be fit for the first Test in Brisbane on November 25.

Alex Kountouris, the Cricket Australia physiotherapist, said: "Doug Bollinger returned from India with a stomach muscle strain sustained during the first Test.

"He did not recover in time to be available for the ODI series in India. On returning to Australia, he had scans that have cleared him of any significant muscle injury.

"As such, he will commence bowling next week and is likely to be available for selection for the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield game for New South Wales against Tasmania starting on November 17."
