Borussia Dortmund have opened talks with Bayern Munich over the return of Mario Gotze, Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed.
Gotze moved from Dortmund to Munich for €35 million (Dh142m) in 2013 but has not featured as much as he might have expected and a return is now being discussed.
“I wouldn’t say a deal has been struck, but I can confirm that there have been talks with Borussia Dortmund as well as with his agent,” Rummenigge told Sport1 television ahead of Bayern’s friendly against Lippstadt on Saturday.
“But it’s not complete yet. The clubs must first reach an agreement over a transfer fee.”

Dortmund are likely to receive a substantial discount on Germany’s World Cup-winning goalscorer, with Rummenigge accepting Gotze did not meet expectations.
“He’s been here for three years and it’s not worked out,” Rummenigge said. “It’s not surprising that he has had a change of heart.
“He’s 24 years old and he needs to be playing regularly.”
Gotze scored 31 goals in 114 appearances in four seasons at Dortmund. While his scoring rate has improved in a dominant Bayern team, with 35 in 85 games, he has completed the full 90 minutes on only 27 occasions in three seasons.

Family reunited
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe was born and raised in Tehran and studied English literature before working as a translator in the relief effort for the Japanese International Co-operation Agency in 2003.
She moved to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies before moving to the World Health Organisation as a communications officer.
She came to the UK in 2007 after securing a scholarship at London Metropolitan University to study a master's in communication management and met her future husband through mutual friends a month later.
The couple were married in August 2009 in Winchester and their daughter was born in June 2014.

The flights
Direct flights from the UAE to the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu, are available with Air Arabia, (www.airarabia.com) Fly Dubai (www.flydubai.com) or Etihad (www.etihad.com) from Dh1,200 return including taxes. The trek described here started from Jomson, but there are many other start and end point variations depending on how you tailor your trek. To get to Jomson from Kathmandu you must first fly to the lake-side resort town of Pokhara with either Buddha Air (www.buddhaair.com) or Yeti Airlines (www.yetiairlines.com). Both charge around US$240 (Dh880) return. From Pokhara there are early morning flights to Jomson with Yeti Airlines or Simrik Airlines (www.simrikairlines.com) for around US$220 (Dh800) return.
The trek
Restricted area permits (US$500 per person) are required for trekking in the Upper Mustang area. The challenging Meso Kanto pass between Tilcho Lake and Jomson should not be attempted by those without a lot of mountain experience and a good support team. An excellent trekking company with good knowledge of Upper Mustang, the Annaurpuna Circuit and Tilcho Lake area and who can help organise a version of the trek described here is the Nepal-UK run Snow Cat Travel (www.snowcattravel.com).
