Barcelona lose in a better fashion in the books

A financial loss of $13.5million for the season is still less than a forecasted $31m with income growth rate better than spending.

Barcelona have announced that they lost US$13.5 million (Dh50m) during a 2010-2011 season that saw them lift both the European and Spanish championships.

Even so, the Catalan giants said that the losses were less than a forecasted $31 million.

The club said they have reduced their total debt from $624 million to $527 million over the course of last season.

While the club's expenditures grew by 10.4 per cent, the club said "for the first time in recent years" an income growth of 14 per cent outpaced their increase in spending.

The transfers of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Dmytro Chygrynskiy and Martin Caceres formed a chunk of the losses and cost them $64 million.
