Omar Abdulrahman, the UAE and Al Ain playmaker, will appear on the cover of the Middle East edition of Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 (PES 2016), the latest edition of the popular console game.
Abdulrahman, widely one of the region's best players, will appear alongside Barcelona's Brazilian superstar Neymar when he becomes the first Arab player to appear on the cover of PES.
The new edition of the game will be released across “Egypt, the GCC and Levant countries” on September 17, according to a PES spkesman, with a 20th anniversary edition also available.
Abdulrahman, who helped Al Ain to the Arabian Gulf League title last season, gained international recognition for his performances at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2015 Asian Cup in Australia.
He scored in the final as the UAE won the 2013 Gulf Cup of Nations, and was named player of the tournament, while in the same year he was listed by Fifa.com as one of the most promising future stars in Asia.
Abdulrahman said: “I have played Pro Evolution Soccer since I was a child. Growing up, I never imagined that I would be on the cover one day, so I am excited to be featured on it in this year’s edition and I can’t wait to see the game in action this September.”
