ABU DHABI // Baniyas need only two points from their remaining three games to win the UAE's Division One title and with it promotion to the Pro League next season. They can celebrate early tonight if they manage to beat Al Rams at home. Baniyas have been one of the yo-yo teams of UAE football and are looking to returning to the top flight competition after a two-year absence. Even if they don't win tonight, against a team who are languishing in the bottom half of the table, Baniyas could still clinch promotion should second-placed Al Fujairah lose or draw their home encounter with Masafi, who are second from bottom, tonight.
Baniyas top the table on 63 points, eight more than Fujairah, who are in a tussle with five others to clinch the second promotion spot in the 16-team division. Baniyas's President's Cup win in the 1991-92 season is the biggest achievement in the history of the Abu Dhabi club and stepping into the newly professional Pro League will be a major step forward for the minnows. @Email:apassela@thenational.ae
