Mohamed Kallon, the former Inter Milan and Monaco player, will be one of the top attractions of the UAE Etisalat Pro League when it kicks off at the end of next month. Al Shaab, the Sharjah-based club, have signed the Sierra Leone captain, 29, for a fee reportedly close to US$1 million (Dh3.673m) a year. Kallon, who was an Inter player from 1998 to 2004, has been without a club since May after being released by the Greek side AEK Athens. Last November he reportedly turned down a one-and-a-half year deal worth US$10million from Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. having decided he did not want to live in Saudi.
His impressive credentials should make Al Shaab, who finished fifth last season, a major threat in the new Pro League. The club are also trying to sign the Bahraini player Mohammed Salmeen and Ghana's Godwin Attram. Meanwhile, Al Ain have confirmed the acquisition of the Chile playmaker Jorge Luis Valdivia from the Brazilian side Palmeiras. Valdivia has signed a four-year contract in a deal worth ?17million (Dh92m), Al Ain confirmed in Frankfurt where the former Asian Champions League winners are holding their pre-season summer training camp.
