Al Nasr will wait for Luis to recover from injury

DUBAI // Al Nasr have ruled out making any changes to their foreign quartet in the transfer window despite the possible absence of Brazilian midfielder Eder Luis from the team for three weeks through injury.

Eder has travelled to Serbia for treatment after tearing an abductor muscle in their 2-0 loss at Al Shaab on Friday and is expected to be out of action for two to three weeks. That rules him out of Thursday’s league clash at Al Ahli and puts him in doubt for the President’s Cup semi-final against Al Ain on January 30.

Nasr, however, are not considering any replacements, the team manager Khalid Obaid said.

“It is not difficult for Nasr to contract with a new foreign player, but we prefer stability,” he said.

“There is hope that he might be fit for the game against Al Ain, which means he misses just one match.”

Al Wahda, however, will not be waiting for their Kuwaiti defender Hussain Fadel to get fit and have brought Australian Dino Djulbic back into the squad. Fadel has been ruled out for four to six weeks with an abductor muscle injury.

Al Shabab have also brought back the Uzbek midfielder Azizbek Haydarov into the squad after replacing him with Palestinian Eder earlier in the month. Eder, however, will continue with the team as Haydarov replaces Brazilian Adeilson.

Elsewhere, Ajman have made their first signing of the transfer window, bringing midfielder Mohammed Abdulbasit on loan from Al Ahli until the end of the season.

The club are also negotiating with Iraq international Ahmed Ibrahim as a possible replacement for Kuwaiti striker Yousuf Nasser.

One in nine do not have enough to eat

Created in 1961, the World Food Programme is pledged to fight hunger worldwide as well as providing emergency food assistance in a crisis.

One of the organisation’s goals is the Zero Hunger Pledge, adopted by the international community in 2015 as one of the 17 Sustainable Goals for Sustainable Development, to end world hunger by 2030.

The WFP, a branch of the United Nations, is funded by voluntary donations from governments, businesses and private donations.

Almost two thirds of its operations currently take place in conflict zones, where it is calculated that people are more than three times likely to suffer from malnutrition than in peaceful countries.

It is currently estimated that one in nine people globally do not have enough to eat.

On any one day, the WFP estimates that it has 5,000 lorries, 20 ships and 70 aircraft on the move.

Outside emergencies, the WFP provides school meals to up to 25 million children in 63 countries, while working with communities to improve nutrition. Where possible, it buys supplies from developing countries to cut down transport cost and boost local economies.
