Majed Naser, the Al Wasl goalkeeper who last season was handed a 17-match ban for slapping Quique Sanchez Flores, has completed a shock move to Al Ahli

Majed Naser, the Al Wasl goalkeeper who last season was handed a 17-match ban for slapping Quique Sanchez Flores following an Etisalat Cup semi-final defeat, will get to work under the Spaniard when his suspension ends in January after completing a shock move to Al Ahli last night.

Naser, who is also serving a lengthy ban for butting a player in last season's GCC Champions League final, completed his move along with Ali Rabea, another goalkeeper from Ajman, before the transfer window closed at midnight last night.

Naser made headlines in March for slapping Sanchez Flores on the back of the neck as the coach celebrated his team's Etisalat Cup victory over Wasl.

He was given a 17-match ban by the Football Association's Disciplinary Committee.

Wasl later requested the FA ban him for the entire season after he butted an Al Musharraq player in the GCC Champions League final in June. However, that ban was later reduced to six months.

Bruno Metsu, the Wasl coach who was the UAE national team coach when Naser was his first-choice goalkeeper, had some encouraging words for the player after their 2-2 draw against Al Nasr in the Pro League last Saturday.

"For me, Majed is the best in the UAE and one of the best in the GCC," the Frenchman said. "He has great qualities, but sometimes he fights too much. You need to know goalkeepers, when they concede a lot of goals they get agitated. You need to help Majed, to understand him; not to fight him."
