Aguero lands at Manchester City as transfer saga nears end

The striker will undergo a medical reportedly in a while from now leaving Atletico coach disappointed on the £38m move.

The Argentine striker is hot property with Real Madrid also showing interest.

The Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero is confident his £38million (Dh230m) move to Manchester City will be completed soon after he arrived in England to meet club officials.

The Argentina international was at City's Carrington training ground this morning having cut short a holiday in his homeland to fly in to finalise contract negotiations and undergo a medical.

Aguero, the son-in-law of Diego Maradona, is currently on leave having been involved in the Copa America.

"Just arrived in Manchester to finalise the details of signing with City," Aguero wrote on his Twitter page.

"Everything is going very well! I'll tell you more in a while."

Aguero was due to rejoin his squad at the Vicente Calderon where Atletico host Norwegian side Stromgodest tomorrow in the Euopa League's third qualifying round.

No wonder his arrival in Manchester left Atletico coach Gregorio Manzano disappointed.

"It does seem that in the coming hours we will arrive at the final outcome of an issue that has occupied us so long," he told Marca.

Manzano acknowledged he hoped to convince the 23 year old, nicknamed Kun, to extend his five-year spell or his departure could have been handled better.

"I have asked the players to focus on Thursday's game. Unfortunately we will not have the Kun. The truth is that I hoped to reflect on his decision to leave favourably.

"But I think he could have chosen a more special, professional and loving way to leave."

Manchester City coach Roberto Mancini had already indicated two days back that the deal was close and expected to be finalised by this week.

That comment came after attempts to offload Carlos Tevez to Corinthians on his request failed. City were hoping to get £40m from his sale and help fund Aguero's move but were keen on Tevez's compatriot nonetheless.

The British press reported that City had reached agreement with Atletico following the intervention of club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

Aguero's transfer will be City's third signing of the summer following the arrival of Gael Clichy from Arsenal and Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade.

Aguero has been on the wishlist of many clubs including Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.
