The 2016 Gulf Cup is expected to go ahead as planned in Kuwait after officials from the neighbouring Gulf countries this week inspected the facilities there.

Last month, the Kuwaiti Football Association postponed the 23rd running of the event, originally slated for December 22 to January 4, because of concerns regarding incomplete maintenance work on stadiums. The decision threatened the postponement of the 2015/16 UAE football season.

Yet the General Authority for Youth and Sports, which falls under the auspices of the Kuwaiti government, then insisted Kuwait would in fact be ready to host the tournament in its original slot.

This week, a delegation comprising members of the seven other football federations of the Gulf travelled to Kuwait to examine the facilities. A comprehensive report is anticipated Sunday, with the December 22-January 4 event reportedly set to be given the go-ahead.
