It’s been a busy week for the Business Extra team as the cooler weather kicks off the UAE conference season. The World Economic Forum has been in town, it is Dubai Future Week, the world’s largest oil and gas exhibition is set for Abu Dhabi in a few days’ time and we have the Dubai Airshow show coming up before the end of this month.

Those are only a handful of the things going on in November. Amid the action Mustafa Alrawi and Kelsey Warner discuss the launch of one of the Middle East's biggest defence groups, EDGE and they welcome guest host Clemence Dutertre, chief executive at the Careem-RTA joint venture Hala, to talk about the bridge between private and public sector ride-hailing, and discuss the rest of this week’s business headlines.

Electoral College Victory

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

Popular Vote Tally

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
