There is no doubt that cinemas should not allow texting, talking or checking messages (A message all moviegoers must remember, April 20).
Distractions from members of the audience – talking while the film is showing, making phone calls, texting, people arriving late and allowing children to run around – are all unfortunately familiar for anyone who watches movies here. Some shun the cinema entirely for this reason. Why would anyone pay to go to a movie and have this happen to them? Do some people actually find watching a movie this way enjoyable?
Jim Buckingham, Abu Dhabi
I stopped going to the movies here a long time ago because of the ill-mannered audience.
Waffling away on the phone, constant message beeps, stinky food, crying babies... the only thing that is missing is someone smoking.
Wiltrud Matthes, Dubai
I hate going to the cinema as I don’t pay to listen to people’s conversations nor be distracted by the phone lights. There might be rules, but unfortunately they aren’t enforced.

Various factors behind the rise in divorces
It is disturbing to hear of the drastic increase in divorce rates among Emiratis (Who is to blame for the high number of divorces? April 20).
In my opinion, lack of respect and willingness to compromise are to be blamed for failed marriages. These days women are on a par with men and extremely competitive and career-orientated. This often leads to a conflict with their husbands as the majority of men expect women to manage the household responsibilities before anything else.
It’s the clash between the reality and expectations that leads to rifts between couples.
Fatima Suhail, Sharjah
I feel that this article puts too much blame on women. It takes two to make a marriage work.
Patricia Cooksey, Abu Dhabi
In our culture, there is a lack of communication between the two parties. We neither listen to each other nor compromise or try to understand one another.
This is the main reason for the high number of divorces. This also applies to many other fields in life.
Khulood S Mehairi, Abu Dhabi
While woman are evolving, men remain the same. In developing countries, women are increasingly speaking English and getting an education, while men remain the same. Could this be a factor?

iPad lags behind its competitors
I'm afraid to stress that the iPad, including the Pro, is the worst business device you can ever think of (Apple iPad Pro 9.7 review: A valid reason not to buy a laptop, April 18).
The iPad Pro still has only one port, no file explorer, cannot run desktop software, no USB, lacks expandable or portable storage management and support for mouse input. Perhaps more troubling for enterprise users is the lack of Active X support in the mobile version of Safari or support for x86 software. The limitations are just too many.
People are now realising that slapping a keyboard on an oversized iPad, or calling it “Pro”, doesn’t turn Apple’s iOS-powered tablet into a real hybrid device or PC replacement – they suffer from the same software and hardware limitations that relegate all iPads to “companion” devices.
The only true “Pro” devices out there are Windows 10-based hybrids – Surface Pro 4, Samsung Galaxy TabPro S and Huawei Matebook – as they run both tablet and desktop (x86) apps.
As long as the iPad Pro runs a mobile phone OS, it’ll never be a true PC replacement for most people.
This explains why all those who have iPads or Android tablets also have a PC or Mac.
