After parts of Star Wars: The Force Awakens were filmed in Abu Dhabi last year, Hollywood has turned its attention to Dubai. As The National reported yesterday, Star Trek Beyond, the third instalment of the other blockbuster sci-fi franchise, is set to shoot scenes in the emirate this month.
Over the past few years, the Emirates have become a familiar landscape in films. From Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol to Furious 7, the country has played a role in Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters – and many more are on the way, including the new Jackie Chan film, Kung Fu Yoga.
Filmmakers are flocking to take advantage of our advanced infrastructure and locations that range from desert dunes to futuristic cityscapes. In addition to the blockbusters, there is a whole galaxy of smaller productions. And it’s the UAE that is the winner.
