I write to you in reference to Nick Webster's article UAE traffic: Plan for extra time as traffic builds in Jumeirah (February 11): I believe that establishing different school timings could help reduce the traffic on UAE roads. The congestion is worst from 6.30am to 8.30am and then from 12pm to 2pm. If schools started earlier, morning traffic could be alleviated. The authorities should give it a shot as this solution is cost-effective and truly innovative.

The UAE needs to become self-sufficient in sciences
I write in reference to your article UAE needs vocational courses – not just university degrees, say parents and teachers (February 18). The UAE is doing a very good job of promoting vocational courses that will generate considerable expertise but more must be done.
A nation like the UAE should become self-sufficient in sciences and technology to prepare for the future.

Iran should stop blaming others for its failures
I write in reference to the article Iran confirms second satellite launch failure and suspects US (February 17): it has become a fashion these days to blame others for one's own failures.
This is most likely a technical flaw. Even the US has failed a number of times in launching rockets but it simply analysed the causes and rectified them. Iran should stop blaming others for its lack of expertise.

The five stages of early child’s play

1. Solitary Play: This is where Infants and toddlers start to play on their own without seeming to notice the people around them. This is the beginning of play.
2. Onlooker play: This occurs where the toddler enjoys watching other people play. There doesn’t necessarily need to be any effort to begin play. They are learning how to imitate behaviours from others. This type of play may also appear in children who are more shy and introverted.
3. Parallel Play: This generally starts when children begin playing side-by-side without any interaction. Even though they aren’t physically interacting they are paying attention to each other. This is the beginning of the desire to be with other children.
4. Associative Play: At around age four or five, children become more interested in each other than in toys and begin to interact more. In this stage children start asking questions and talking about the different activities they are engaging in. They realise they have similar goals in play such as building a tower or playing with cars.
5. Social Play: In this stage children are starting to socialise more. They begin to share ideas and follow certain rules in a game. They slowly learn the definition of teamwork. They get to engage in basic social skills and interests begin to lead social interactions.
