The wise will hold on to jobs even at salary cuts

With reference to the report Qantas to cut 6,000 jobs and raise capital in battle to survive coronavirus pandemic (June 25):  Airbus and BMW have announced job cuts too. Companies across the world, are having to lay off staff due to low sales triggered by Covid-19.

The employment market is likely to be tight for at least 18 months, till the end of 2021, assuming that a vaccine is discovered by the first quarter of 2021 and is disseminated across the world between March and December 2021. Till the world is safe again after vaccination, people are going to be wary to spend and economic activity will be sluggish.

Clearly, there is going to be massive pressure for jobs in most markets. Unless a person is from a business family and can be absorbed in it or he has ample savings, the future could be tough. It may therefore be wise for a person to stay on in his current job, even at a salary cut. It would be smart not to make any aggressive moves in the current situation. A job is a blessing these days. The wise will hold on to them.

Cinemas are great but pollution from cars is worrying

Regarding Evelyn Lau and Ashleigh Stewart's report Abu Dhabi's first drive-in cinema to open at Yas Marina Circuit (June 30): I am concerned about the carbon emissions from these cars when the engines are kept running for at least two hours for the duration of the movie.

I write to you in regard to Sarah Maisey's article I've fostered more than 50 animals in 13 years and it is my greatest joy (June 28): I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed the wonderful article, written by an obviously amazing woman. It was heartwarming to know there are people out there who love animals, as much as I do, but have gone that extra mile with to give so many of them a great life. It was a lovely story in these difficult times, when sadly people are abandoning more animals. I myself have a rescue dog and did have a cat, who sadly died last year. I would have a houseful too if my husband would allow it!

These animals have rescued me, after having four spinal operations after damaging my spine as a nurse. They have nursed me through some horrible times. I love animals and try to help animal charities as much as I can.

I think she has done a fantastic job and obviously adores animals. She sounds wonderful and I hope she continues to enjoy helping these lucky animals, who manage to find her. I have fingers crossed her dog is okay after surgery.
